Strangers, 2020-2021
217 days in a row from 2nd November 2020 till 7th June 2021 I cycled around Berlin with one goal - to find and photograph one stranger in a day. Strangers project came as an attempt to build connection with others and the city during increasingly isolated times.

The project originally started the day when the second lockdown was announced in Berlin and it was supposed to last only one month. Once the lockdown has been extended several times, Strangers project has turned into a documentary story about Berlin and its citizens.

During more than 7 months of the second lockdown the closest safe distance I could stand to anyone was one meter and a half - at this exact distance I made close up portraits. I recorded their coordinates by taking a second frame farther apart, finding the place where the person I met that day mimicked the urban landscape. Under the wave of large numbers of infections and red columns of epidemiological statistics we were creating a chronicle of the time when the city and its citizens froze, waiting for the better news.

After the last portrait has been taken at the end, Strangers project culminated as a permanent record of this era. It serves as a personal and public diary of the different experiences and lives of Berliners during this peculiar time.
